| There is a poll on the NYCMBL website about which team not currently in the playoffs will make the playoffs - it's a stupid fucking poll. So with that in mind, lets all log on and vote for The Beers - lets win something this year!! |

We're not even the worst team in the league!
How could they drop us? |

| thank you, i've been bitching about the team name for two years now for being a joke. I almost had jersey's made up with another name just to force us out out of this joke name. Joel did kind of ask mike that we may want to consider coming up with a name not so dumb. |

When a whole team gets tossed out of the league for arguing and throwing a ball at the umpires, and just about every single other team has had major behavior problems, I'm pretty sure they're not about to throw out the team that has never had a discipline problem in 3 years
And how much different are the Beers than the Brewers, really? |

| Also if I remember correctly from one of last year's podcasts (which I am sure I do remember correctly because I listened to each one 10 times because they are so crazy awesome) baseball is 0% mental and 100% physical...so then what does the name matter if it's 0% mental? |

can't we ever have a discussion where you don't bring that up. I am uping the 0% mental to something higher ever since Lou struck me out and I swung at 6 bad pitches.
You're comparing apples and bowling balls. The name is not a mental/physical thing, its a promotional thing. Recruiting better players is easier with a real name and being taken seriously is nice. Calling yourself the beers is not going to get you taken seriously. The name doesn't change how we play but it may change who plays for us. If we called ourselves the gay jew fags we would probably do the same as long as the players don't change. I have probably 12 posts and 6 podcasts all saying exactly what i just wrote, so I am done with this. We have jersey's that say beers and hats. the name isn't going to change, I have come to terms with that. I lost this battle a long time ago which means i am owed a win so next time i want something i expect to be compensated |

That's got a nice ring to it...but do you think that would fit on a jersey?
And no, I will always bring that up...I listen to the podcast religiously and take every word as gospel...cool or not cool? I say cool |

| I think I was illustrating a point. Would it be better if I said Straight Italian Wiseguys? Let us not get all too sensitive on this. After all the team constantly reminds me i'm jewish and according to George...Gay! |

fyi, like two-thirds of the team is jewish. The rest are italian and a few stragglers including the drunken aussie.
You want to make someone eat out of a straw, go get some muslims, they are the real threats to jews....that and the new york times. |

| Is somebody going to step up in the last few games and get a ejection/suspension? We're like the only team that doesn't have one, we should be ashamed of ourselves. |

Spider pig is the only thing in the commercial for the simpsons movie that got anything close to a chuckle from me. I hope the movie is better than that.
Anyway, I don't care if the other teams take our team name seriously. The only way we're going to be taken seriously is if we win, regardless of team name. If they think we're a joke and we end up kicking their asses, then the joke's on them. When we play poorly it's not due to our name.
The name is a key aspect of one of the founding principles of the team. We CAN be laid back and still win, and given a choice between taking it way too seriously with suspensions/etc. and losing and having fun, I'll take losing and having fun. And despite being laid back, we don't lose due to not taking it seriously, but rather from errors and lack of timely hitting and pitching, which does not at all stem from a "whatever" attitude. As far as I can tell, everybody tries hard; everybody wants to get that strikeout, or that RBI double, and nobody wants to make an error, if only to save themselves from individual embarrasment. We have pretty good attendance and I don't notice anyone not hustling, so everybody's dedicated. The Skyline had a "whatever" attitude and they have a normal name, and look what happened to them ( ), not that having a normal name is what killed them, but we do want to distance ourselves from that kind of attitude of taking it too seriously (to the point that if we have a poor record we'd rather not play). We had the same record, but we're having fun (I am, anyway, and people continue to show up so I figure others are to some extent as well) and they weren't. In fact, we need to relax even more with runners in scoring position. This whole post is too serious and for the most part irrelevant . The second paragraph is key, though.
Also, how many good players have we recruited due in large part to our name? I think at least Nigel and Andres. Perhaps the only way we could have been more attractive to Nigel is if we were named the Victoria Bitters |

Also, I think we're more competitive than our record indicates. We're 1-12 against awesome teams like the Clippers, Knights, Warriors, Blue Sox and Blue Jays (who I now consider awesome considering they've won 10 in a row). The first 4 of those teams are a combined 82-30 for a .732 winning %. Most of those 30 losses have come against eachother. The Knights' 6 losses have come against the Blue Sox, NY Knights (17-9 record), Clippers, Red Sox (14-10); only one of those teams hasn't dominated, and they're still 14-10 in a tough division. 6 of the Warriors' 9 losses have come against the BK Knights and Blue Sox. Hell, we should be happy we beat the Blue Sox; the Athletics and Brewers haven't beaten anybody that good. Against non-awesome teams, we're 6-9-1, and that should be higher. We were 1 out away from victory twice (in one game we threw away 3 chances at the final out), and that can be attributed mostly to nerves. 5 of those losses we lost by 2 or fewer runs. The Renegades beat 9 of us by 3 runs, and we had plenty of chances. Sure, the awesome teams pound us, but a lot of teams get pounded by them. Check the Brewers' game log, or the Athletics'. You see plenty of lopsided scores. Our huge runs scored to runs allowed ratio can partly be attributed to the absolute poundings the Knights have given us, outscoring us 50-7. Other awesome teams like the Warriors and Blue Jays have also destroyed us at times, (Warriors scored 17 runs in one game, Blue Jays 18 ). Sure, we should be playing better against the awesome teams, at least something respectable, but they're awesome for a reason. We've had 12 games against awesome teams, and we've won 1 of them, while the Brewers and Athletics have only played 7 and 8 games respectively against awesome teams, and haven't won any of them.
We really aren't the joke of the league. Other teams can laugh at our name all they want, but the lower ranking ones know deep down that they're not much better than us, if they're better at all.
Oh yeah, against non-awesome teams we've scored 90 runs and given up 98, not a terrible ratio. If you include the 14 we automatically get in the forfeits, even better, 104-98 (and presumably we'd have improved our ratio even without the forfeits by beating the Skyline legitimately). The timing on the runs isn't very good, though, since it seems often we'll lose game 1 3-2 or something and then lose the next one 11-5 (swap the scores and we get a win).
But as for what we need to do to improve, 2 things we need to cut down on are strikeouts on offense ( ) and walks on pitching ( ). Duh, I guess. |
