THE WINES
WHAT THE FUCK - WE HAVE A WEEK TO PREPARE!!! WE HAVE A WEEK TO MAKE SURE 9 PEOPLE SHOW UP WHY IS THIS HAPPENING -- MIKE YOUR MY BOY - BUT THE BLAME FALLS ON YOU -- YOU ARE THE MANAGER --- DO SOMETHING OR THIS SHIP WILL SINK I KNOW 2 PEOPLE HOSED THE DAY OF THE GAME - WHICH IS BAD - EVERY FRIDAY YOU BETTER HAVE A SOLID 11, ITS ONE THING TO SUCK - ITS ANOTHER TO NOT BE PREPARED - MIKE - EVERY FRIDAY - YOU HAVE 11 CONFIRMED, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I don't know what you think I do all week. As of now, the policy was that we would assume that everyone would be at every game unless they say otherwise. To be safe, I try to doble and triple confirm everyone. It's not too far fetched to think that 11 people is enough, but now we know better. Every game, including the 3 forfeits, I had at least 11 confirmed the night before (except this time I only had 10). As of Friday night, here's who I had: Brendan: No (was in the Army) Brian: No (waas in Cali) Dave: Yes (but leaving early) Denis: No (told me on Friday that he had a Christening to go to) Greg: Maybe (would try to get out of rehearsal early, but would be late to the game) Max: Yes Mike: Yes Mitch: Yes Paul: No (tendonitis) Peter: Yes Rob: No (hamstring) Ron: Yes (but leaving early) That's 4 out of 12 who could make it without any problems. 6 would be there at the start of the game, 5 would be there at the end (with Greg replacing Dave and Ron). Doesn't give me many options. It turned out that Ron never committed (even though Dave and I thought he had). So I scrambled for the new talent that I had been trying to get all week... Newcomers (who I couldn't be sure of their reliability) James: Yes James' friend Craig: Yes Chad: No (told me Friday morning that he had a Christening) Howard: Yes (but he said yes to practice too and disappeared) Mike N: Yes (who we met at the batting cages on Friday, he said he'd be there, picked us up with all the equipment and drove us all the way out there, AND didn't complain) Victor: Yes As of Friday, James said he and his pitching buddy Craig would show up. I got worried when I couldn't get in touch with them on Saturday because I didn't know if they knew how to get to the field, so I assumed that they had hosed. That was a bad assumption because they were both at the field ready to play. A couple of lessons learned here: 1. First and foremost, we need more players. Hence, my stated goal of 20 by Sunday. James and Chad are already in, so 6 more slots need to be filled. The ad is up, and responses are coming in. The commisioner is also forwarding me people who want to join. 2. Everyone needs to learn how to schedule things. Buy a date book. Put all the games in it, then when someone says, "Hey, you want to come to this party on July 3rd", look in your book and say, "Sorry, I have a prior commitment that day". It's not hard. Unless it's an emergency, I should know every game that you're going to miss for the whole season.
