Meeting for NYCMBL 2007 Season - Dec 1st
The preparation is starting to get started.... The league is looking to improve even more for next season and this meeting will be important to get the teams' feedback and whatnot... It would be great if The Beers can be represented by a large number of people. I will be there, so let me know who else will be able to come. See Joel's email below for info and contact him with any questions... Hello Everyone, We would like to have a meeting on Friday, December 1st which we would like everyone to attend. The purpose of this meeting will have a HUGE impact on our 2007 summer season. As I'm sure you would all agree, this was a successful season for this league, which we would like to build upon for next year. There is plenty of interest in the league and we foresee an increase in the amount of teams who will be looking to join next season. Certain things were done correctly, and there were some things that could've been done differently. We want to work out the kinks, which is one of the purposes of this meeting, especially if we expand by even just 2 teams. We would like to talk about the things that went good, and the things that we could work on fixing for the upcoming season. Your feedback and participation at this meeting, and the league in general will be huge in making this league one of the best leagues in the city. At this meeting, we plan to discuss the following: 1) What people liked about the league and what are things that could be done in order to improve the league for next season. 2) Discuss the format for next season - whether we stick with doubleheaders or go with 9 inning games or do a little of both. 3) How many new teams do we allow in the league, as well as the screening criteria to allow teams in the league. 4) Appoint an oversight committee that will include managers, league officials, and umpires. The purpose of this committee will be go over rules, scheduling, the keeping of statistics, fields, suspensions/fines, website, and other league matters that need to be attended to before, during, and after the season has concluded. The committee will plan to meet at least once a month to ensure that all aspects of the league are being kept up to standards and to basically make sure what needs to get done, get done!!! I'm sure there's more that we can discuss that I probably left out, which is the reason why it's important that you attend if you plan to come back next season. We would like to have our first meeting for the 2007 season around December 15th. We would like to have a format, and a definite direction for the league in place for that meeting, which is why your involvement is so important. Please RSVP and let us know who will be attending. Based upon the number of confirmations we get, we will then decide the appropriate location for the meeting. Looking forward to everyone's responses. Cordially, Joel Marcano New York City Metro Baseball League 917-603-6591 With the mention of team expansion and the amount of interest other teams have in this league, I think it is even more important for The Beers to have a real plan on how to improve from last year. The meeting will probably be at ESPN Zone in Times Square. We will have a Beers team meeting either before or after the league meeting. Please RSVP...

I don't have many suggestions, really. I think it's very important to stick with doubleheaders (14 innings > 9 innings, more innings = better). I don't really know why new teams would need to be screened, so long as they pay up and have uniforms and seem dedicated. Personally I don't think I'd like to see it turn into some league where everybody's super awesome. One idea I was kind of thinking of before this year was to have kind of 2 divisions based on teams' performances the previous year. Same umpires, same rules, same fields, everything pretty much equal, just the teams would MOSTLY play teams in their division, but they'd play everybody also. It'd screw up the borough division system, but I dont know, I was thinking it might up the competitive balance. Maybe it's kind of a defeatist attitude, and we're certainly capable of competing with the \"good\" teams, but it was just a thought. But honestly I don't think much needs to be changed. Aside from our performance, of course :D. Anyway hope to see everybody back next year. I had lots of fun this year, but next year should be even better. Should be totally 100% drama free, too.

i think we should not play at marine park - those fields are shit !

I hope to be at the meeting and voice my opinion there, but just in case I just want to state the following: This is not professional baseball, we are not getting paid, we are paying to play. Furthermore, the idea of paying to partake in an activity is that it is enjoyable. Getting up on Saturday morning at 7 AM is not enjoyable, and a complete waste of my money. I'm not going to be an ass and say I'm never coming to them, but if there are as many as we had last year I probably won't be there for most of them. Yes, the fact that it was Charles Young field made it a bit worse, but I would probably be even more pissed off about having to play in Brooklyn at 8 AM, because than I would have to get up earlier. So the field isn't really my issue.

yeah - what he said - no early morning games!! baseball is hard enough as it is without having to play when you are still drunk!! marine park still sucks though...

Nigel - How was the schedule for the fall season? And the fields and stuff. We'll need a 500 word report by the end of the week. Also how about an injury report? I think we only have one injury to report on.

So how did it go?

Scrumpy- 12-07-2006

to be honest the fall season was kinda lame but it can only get better - the best bit was playing a nine inning game at that roberto clemente field in the bronx under lights - beers should play in it next season. i only played for the express (little jay aint such a bad guy really) to get keep my eye in the for the beers summer league - f*ken lotta good that did me, smashed up hand and that will probably have me back playing in May at the earliest!

i think we should not play at marine park - those fields are shit ! Good news.. Marine Park and 145th Street are out. They've secured Roberto Clemente and some other fields. I used to play there in high school, and it's nice (and has lights so maybe some night games like Nigel said). The fees are going up though. Preliminary reports estimate the team fee to be up around $3000. More details to come. A $500 deposit is due at the next meeting (Jan 20th) so we start saving, because we'll be needing that money to ensure our spot in the league.
