Beers Summer 2007 Awards
Here are the awards for the Summer season. Congrats to the winners, better luck next year for the losers (everyone's a winner on the Beers, though). MVP: Mike D (duh)... for being the best hitter on the team (.468 average, 2 homers, 26 RBIs, etc.) and even being a capable mopup man on the mound, saving us from further embarassment in some of those lopsided losses. Either drove in or scored 30% of our runs. Single handedly raised the team batting average by 25 points. Probably would have been a pretty strong candidate for league MVP if he had submitted himself. Cy Young: Tie; Andres Blanco for leading the team in ERA (among pitchers with more than 20 IP), having the highest k rate, lowest WHIP, and tied for the most wins; Rich Cupolo for being the team's work horse, leading the team in IP, second in ERA, and tied for the most wins. Rickey Henderson award: Adam Hill, for leading the team in OBP (.532), tied for first in stolen bases, second in walks, and scoring about 80% of the time he leads off the game. We'll have to get the book again to determine exactly what the percentage is that he scores leading off the game, but needless to say it's ridiculous so this decision is obvious (especially considering we only have one leadoff hitter generally...). Craig Biggio award: George Webb for getting hit by a pitch 8 times. Also displaying general toughness by catching almost every game (Biggio was a catcher for a big chunk of his career as well). Gold Glove: Adam Hill, for the great plays he made (when he wasn't hung over). Everybody's defense improved over last year but nobody really flashed the leather like Adam did. Silver Slugger: In the MLB, this goes by position, but for our purposes it'll just go to one player. Justin Daniels for leading the team in extra base hits, doubles, tied for first in triples and stolen bases, tied for second in homeruns, second in slugging, second in total bases, second in RBIs, second in runs and third in OPS. Tony Gwynn award: Mike D for leading the team in average (at .468) and for striking out only 4 times. Mike's K rate this season is actually identical to Tony Gwynn's career k rate (5%). So there are the awards for the Beers Summer 2007 season. Congrats (again) to the winners :toot: :yay:. Cheers to everybody for a successful 2007 season  .

none of these are funny. someone come up with something amusing. for instance. George gets the award for best vision as he is so aware of how bad the pitch is going to be he swings with 2 stikes just so he can run to first on the wild pitch.

successful 2007 season??? we were 9 and 24 for god's sake!!! and the league gave us one of those wins out of pity...

How about these awards then: Error of the year Winner: Rich's throw from second base over the catchers head @ Elmjack that went out of the stadium. Runner Up: Mike D's game losing error vs the Storm. Honourable Mention: Nige dropping the ball a center with bases loaded and 2 out at Grover. Dylan's "throw it before I caught it" pick off play at 1st base vs the skyline. Bonehead play of the year Justin trying to steal home - nothing else comes close. W.T.F. defensive play award Winner: Steve Rossi dropping a catch - in to Mike D's glove (all caught on film). Runner Up: Mike N's double play at 3rd. Coaching move of the year Peter telling Andres to slow the game down beacause we were winning - only for the Storm to come back and win. Funniest at bat Winner: Mike N getting thrown out by the right fielder. Runner Up: George trying not to get stuck out by the dwarf pitcher @ Elmjack for the final out.

I like the serious ones and the not so serious ones. Here's another one: Best Attendance Award: It's a tie between Steve Rossi and Justin Daniels both with 29 games played out of 33. That's an .879 attendance! I think the tie breaker goes to Steve since Justin had the nerve to move to Missouri to become an on-air commentator. Pffftt... talk about having your priorities out of wack. I wish I were there for the BlueJays game. It seems like it was pretty memorable. Well, we're playing them again soon (9/23) so it'll be a good rematch.

It was successful in that we had fun. I had fun, anyway. I think most people did, if not all. edit: hey I was AT every single game even if I didn't play in every one. Also now I'm going to confuse your posts with Nigels with the similar avatar.

I think we need activity to keep the board alive (dies after 3 months of no activity or something supposedly? I don't know), so here is some activity.
