8/8/05 - Beers game resembles dramedy of errors (L, 16-3) In our first of a series of guest blurb writers, Mike N has this to say about last week's debacle:
Once again the squad was brutally deficient as we had only 9 and repeated the week before. Thanks to Javier, who had some good defense out in left field, but made a game-saving play before the game even started by bringing his brother David and buddy Melvin (which kept us from forfeiting). Peter made his return by making an amazing catch out in center despite the doctors pleading with him not play. Max also played with an injury the details of which aren’t that important. The most entertaining part of the game was the opposing pitcher constantly getting under the skin of the home plate umpire who finally threw him out of the game around the 5th inning. Only a few hits by us and a myriad of errors led to a mercy rule ending in the 7th inning and a score of 16-3. I caught and James pitched, unfortunately the Knights hit and our errors helped them. Defense was the key as the Knights really only had a few earned runs but they did put the ball in play which is often the key to winning.
Next week's guest blurb writer will be Adam Hill.
Some additional notes:
- Only 5 of the 16 runs were earned, so if you take away the Beers' 9 errors we would have only lost by 2.
- We stuck around and had a fun, much needed practice afterwards.

Yeah, next time we should have practice at some point BEFORE the game.
Who's down for Wednesday and/or Thursday and/or Friday? And the cages in Astoria are really nice/cheap. I'm down to go any of those days as well. I'm definately going to go at least one of those days, so if anyone wants to come, let me know. Mike N, Javier and I went last week and it was nice.
