8/15/05 - "Eight Men In" (L, 12-2) Here is Adam's report of this past weekend's game:
After some confusion over who was responsible for bringing the bases, The Beers took the field using plastic bags filled with dirt. I dare say it was a valiant effort behind pitcher James, who toed the rubber for a 6 inning "complete game". Although, valiant play doesn't win ballgames with lackluster bats...and let's face it, having only 8 men in the field (2 outfielders) has never helped anyone. Mike D hit well (2 for 3) and scored our only 2 runs, one on an overthrow to the outfield while stealing third, and the other on a sac fly, RBI going to James, who hit well himself going 2 for 3. Defense, in general, really wasn't all that bad. With our error-prone team, it is of note that we had a beautiful 1-2-3 inning in the 5th, started off by a tricky play by myself at 3rd, and followed by two pretty catches by Javier, who had a lot of ground to cover along with Melvin in the outfield. Peter played quite well at first, but short
of that I give the guy a ton of credit just for being out on the field. Mike N completed the battery, but just couldn't seem to "find his pitch" at the plate...with all due respect, none of them were really "his pitches", shown by his early walk. It's ok though, because he assured me that "he's ready now", so look out next Sunday. That being said, if you can think of any other stupid things said during a baseball game send it to Mike N, or start a topic on the message board.
Good job Adam. Chad Wilcomb is on deck to write the next guest blurb and with his extensive blob experience, it should be good.
SCHEDULE CHANGE - Next weekend we have 2 games. Saturday at 1:00 PM in Marine Park Vs. The Williamsburg Warriors and Sunday at 9:00 AM Vs. The Mad Dogs (if possible, this game will be changed to a more sensible hour, stay tuned). These will be the last games of the season. Both days will be used to round up the remaining Beers who still need to pose for their bubble gum cards. The Saturday game was originally scheduled to be in Harlem, but the city double-booked with some Indian festival. There are rumors about a BBQ or something circulating, but no one has come forward with a location (any ideas are welcome).
PRACTICE - Thursday & Friday! Central Park! If you can make it, be there! Let's hone our skills and play good baseball this weekend. Me and Pete are going to the cages in Astoria tomorrow (Wed) after work. It's awesome!
