7/19/05 - Rain helps Clippers defeat Beers (L, 6-3)
The clouds were threatening from the beginning, but after some pre-game field maintenance, the game was ready to start. The Beers got on the board first with a 3-run 2nd inning. They gave the ball to first time starter J (borrowed from Major League Baseball) who was baffling the Clippers with his deceiving slider. He also helped himself with a RBI, and caught the 2nd half the game. Dave Sansone volunteered to put on the tools of ignorance and catch the first part of the game. The Clippers are known for their aggressive running and Dave did a good job of keeping them honest considering he has never played catcher. He also had a RBI. Chad Wilcomb came in for relief and pitched 2 scoreless innings. In the bottom of the 6th, with the top of the order coming up, the Beers were planning a comeback. Mother Nature had different plans. Before they could even get a swing in, she drenched the field, players, and fans. The umpires called the game due to field conditions. A couple Clippers did their best Rick Dempsey/Robin Ventura impersonations. On the way home, it felt just like after a Little League game when 9 of us packed into Mr. and Mrs. Darling's minivan to head home. Pictures from the Game
