6/28/05 - First win still eludes The Beers (L, 16-8) As always, there is good news and bad news from last weekend's game. The bad news is that the Beers fell to 0-8 with a loss to the Brooklyn Angels. The good news is that everyone showed great commitment by arriving to the field early (way out in Marine Park). This gave us time to stretch, warm up, and practice a little before the game. Maybe we won't practice so hard next time, because it seemed like that was where we used all of our energy.
The Beers had only 3 strikeouts this game (compared to a whopping 16 last week), so there was definately some improvement at the dish. Individual season stats will be updated shortly.
- Mjr. Brendan Carey had a major day at the plate. Going 2-for-2 with 6 RBIs and a walk. Four of those RBI coming off a Grand Slam.
- After a late scratch (Chad tweaked his elbow), newcomer Adam Hill took the ball. He pitched well out of the gate, striking out 2 out of 3 Angels in the first. Later in the game he was hindered by control issues and (as is often the case) some sloppy defense. After moving to Center, he made a stellar full-body diving catch to end the 5th inning.
- Brian Moore, just back from Cali, went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief. Welcome back, Brian!
Practice - We will practice Thursday & Friday. Let me know if you can make it. Focus will be on DEFENSE.

On a more positive note, we did pitch 3 scoreless innings, including 2 in a row. That's half the entire game. If we can just string together a couple 3 scoreless innings in a row, we would probably win 8-0 or something. Hell, even 3 scoreless innings and 3 2 run innings would probably be alright, although a bit more tense :D
