6/13/05 - 3rd forfeit demonstrates need for players
Saturday saw The Beers fall to 0-6 with another forfeit due to lack of players. The positive outcome (because we Beers always look on the bright side) is that we learned that 14 people is not enough. Therefore.... We are going to beef up our roster to 20 people by Sunday's game. So tell your friends that The Beers are looking for players! Everyone and anyone is invited (see our Craigslist ad). We especially need a pitcher since our star starter MA has officially retired. He's moving to Chicago on a whim and he'll be missed. Good luck, MA! Our next game is Fathers' Day (Sunday 6/19) at College Point at 2:30 PM. So bring the old man out to the game. It's a beautiful field and should be a great time.

I definately think that we need more players.. We should have a practice and let those who want to pitch try out. I know that Paul said he could throw the ball, let him pitch to a catcher with a batter in the box and a man on first. See how his control is. In this league that is the name of the game. I have not seen a pitcher yet that has overpowered us, most of the time we just cant get the bat on the ball. If we can throw strikes we can do well

Whatever dude, I was stuck in traffic for just as long as you but we made it on time because we didn't take a break to throw a fit and go lie in central park. It sucked that I wasn't sure if we had enough, but that doesn't mean you throw a fit and give up. I was scrambling to get enough for the game, but there's only so much you can do when 8 out of 12 people can't committ. We did have enough and if 2 more people managed to make it out there (IE, you and victor, or you and greg, or dave and ron) we would have played. Greg did everything he could and was really disappointed that he couldn't make it (it was pouring and he was on his motorcycle). The next step is 2 things: 1. Get more players. We should have 20 by the next game. Everyone can help with this. Invite people you know to practice on Thursday and Friday, tell them the deal, see if they're interested. 2. Homework assignment for EVERYONE: Go over the schedule, pencil all the games into your date book, palm pilot, calendar, whatever and stick to the commitment! Let me know now if you can't make it to ANY games. Example: A friend walks up to you and says, "hey dude, can you help me move on July 9th?" you're response should be "nah, B.. I have a prior commitment that day. The Beers are playing the Celtics at 4PM in harlem."
