5/15/05 - Beers forced to forfeit due to lack of players Only 7 people showed up out of the 12 who said that they would. As I'm sure most of you know, 9 players are needed to play. So, this weekend's game resulted in another forfeit. We are now 0-2 and haven't even played a game yet. This is UNACCEPTABLE. This is NOT what this team is supposed to be about. The 7 of us who were there, didn't show up to be embarrassed. We may be a fun, rowdy, rag-tag bunch of guys, but that doesn't mean we can be irresponsible and let down the other players who care about this team. We decided on the following rules:
IF YOU ARE A NO-SHOW (OR LATE) TO A GAME WITHOUT GIVING ADVANCED NOTICE, AND IT RESULTS IN A FORFEIT, YOU MUST PAY THE FORFEIT FEE OF $160 (WHICH IS THE UMPIRE FEES FOR BOTH TEAMS)
IF YOU DON'T SHOW UP TO A GAME WITHOUT NOTICE TWICE (REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT RESULTS IN A FORFEIT OR NOT), YOU WILL BE CUT AND REPLACED WITH SOMEONE WHO REALLY WANTS TO PLAY.
Too harsh? Have a better idea? Discuss here.

Anyway, there were some positive aspects of the day. Our uniforms arrived, so at least we looked like a baseball team. We also played like a baseball team in an exciting (albeit unofficial) comeback victory. The GV Warriors were no joke. We played hard against them and matched them every step of the way. MA gave another solid outing. And in the bottom of the last inning, down by 3 runs, with 2 outs and the bases loaded, Mike D hit a walk-off grand slam (that ended with a collision at the plate). Too bad it wasn't official. :(
We're going to officially bounce back next week against the Gotham Athletics (Saturday May 21st @ 1:00 PM) at Colonel Charles Young Field.
