2/17/06 - The Beers 2006 - New League Hey everyone,
Hope the last 6 months or so have treated you all well. In the majors, pitchers and catchers reported to spring training yesterday, so it's not too early to start thinking about Baseball. Last week I went to the first managers' meeting and the season is scheduled to start April 1st. So the question is: Who's down?
Here are some details:
- Zone Baseball League is no more. It is now the New York City Metro Baseball League (www.nycmbl.com) - It's got new people running it and they seem to have their shit together way more than the last guy.
- Fees - The fees will be finalized March 11th, but according to the preliminary budget it could be $1000 - $1500 per team. That's not including umpire fees which will be $2660. It's still by far the cheapest league in the city.
- Dates - Regular season will be 20 weeks long starting April 1st with an All-Star game July 4th weekend. That's 38 regular season games (they're all 7-inning double headers) plus playoffs.
- Fields - The main improvement so far is with the fields. There will be NO 145th St. crap fields with rocks and manholes. They managed to get at least 3 nice, artificial turf high school fields. Also, based on the permits, they said that there won't be any games scheduled before noon. This will all be finalized at the next meeting.
So let me know who wants to play... or if you know anyone else who wants to.
